Eleven times the Jays went to extra innings at the Rogers Centre and 11 times they sent the home crowd happy with a win. That my friends, is a new MLB record.
Of course ending today’s game on a walk off was only fitting given that it marked Toronto’s last home game of the season. They’ll finish the year 42-39 at home, something they’ll need to improve for next year. Amazing to think that more than 1/4th of their games at home wins were obtained through walk offs.
The win also delivered a serious blow to the Angels who are still hanging around the playoff picture, but fading quickly. I said before that Monday’s loss (another walk off) eliminated them from the race and I still stand by it.
Tampa meanwhile did themselves a huge favour by winning tonight, moving to within two games with six left to play. They have three left vs. Toronto and three with New York. Boston has three with New York and three with Baltimore. If the Rays do sweep the Jays, I won’t be too heart broken.
And in other news, readers of this blog are in for a treat as I am about to reveal to you a leaked design of next year’s logo. I could go to jail for posting this, but I don’t care.
Ok, it’s not all that top secret and was already leaked by ESPN. Truth by told, I’m pretty sure it was the Jays marketing firm that ‘leaked’ it, hoping bloggers like me would pick up on it. Either way I’m very pleased (assuming it’s the actual logo) and look forward to what the jerseys will look like. I’ve been advocating the return of blue to the Blue Jays for about 10 years now. Glad they finally listened.
