Jays add some infield depth

The Jays may have found their new John McDonald today, picking up Luis Valbuena from the Tribe in exchange for cash.

The fact that all it took was cash to pry him away from Cleveland says a lot….but then again there was a time when Jose Bautista was an under the radar deal too.

Of course Bautista’s case was certainly not the norm. Given that Valbuena hit .208 with one homer in 17 games last year, I’d hardly say he’s our saviour. But he does have a chance to provide some depth off the bench and if he does well enough he could see a decent amount of games at second.

In 2009 he did hit .250 with 10 homers, 25 doubles and 31 RBIs over 103 games. Not great, but it does show some promise.

That being said, hopefully he’s not the only second baseman the Jays pick up this off-season.
