He’s Miami’s problem now

I think we all figured IF the Cubs were ever able to unload Carlos Zambrano, it’d be to a team run by Ozzie Guillen. The two just seemed made for each other.

So in that sense, I’m not too surprised the Marlins traded Chris Volstead for Big Z. I was surprised Theo Epstien agreed to eat 15 million dollars to make it happen. Goes to show you how badly the Cubs wanted him gone.

Given that all it cost them was a fading prospect and three million dollars, I ALMOST want to praise the Marlins for this pick up. He may be the biggest jerk in baseball but when he shuts up and pitches, he’s one of the top 10 in the game. On top of that, he can swing the bat a little too, clobbering 27 home runs.

If that was all that could said about Zambrano, this would be a great pick up. Unfortunately there’s so much more to Big Z. Between fighting his own teammates in plain view in the middle of a game to bad mouthing his club to quitting mid-season, his talent doesn’t even begin to off-set the negatives he brings to the club house.

Some say that Guillen might be able to tame the wild Zambrano and if so, the Marlins could have a real steal on their hands. Personally, I doubt he’ll finish the season in the bigs, be it suspended or cut.

Between Zambrano and grumblings of Hanley Ramirez moving to third, it seems like the Marlins could be a great team on paper but a toxic one in the club house.

Guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

Think of all the egos already probably on this team. Adding Zambrano to the mix WITH Ozzie Guillen as manager is just a bad idea.

I agree that he was/is a talented pitcher, but I don’t know about top ten. He has never even been the Ace on his own team. He has been the #1 P on the Cubs, but he has never been the best. His best year (when he won 18 games) was as a #3 behind Prior and Wood.
